Fuel for School initiative through The Real Junk Food Project Birmingham

January 15, 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to tell you that from 21st January 2019 we will be supporting the Real Junk Food Project to deliver the Fuel for School initiative at Olton Primary. The aims of Fuel for School is to remove hunger as a barrier to learning, improve the wellbeing of children and young people and highlight the global issue of food waste.

So what does this look like at Olton Primary? This means that every Monday afternoon I and a few students will set up a market stall in the playground at 2.45pm full of fresh and
dried produce. The food is donated from Waitrose and Tesco, all past its Best Before date and getting close to the Use by Date. Please use the following link to better understand the meaning of these dates.

All the food provided is Pay As You Feel, or #PAYF for short. That means you contribute however you can, either by making a small cash donation, by volunteering to help on the stall or by possibly volunteering a little time at school.
The Real Junk Food Project also runs a café and food market stall at St Mary’s Church, Hobs Meadow, Solihull B92 8PN every Thursday from 12.00pm – 2.00pm. Everyone is welcome! Again this is #PAYF. No need to book, just turn up. They will make you very welcome.
