Protocols for School Closure due to Snow/Severe weather

Re: Protocols for School Closure due to Snow/severe weather
With the possibility of colder weather coming our way – including snow over the next few weeks, I would like to remind you all of the protocol which we use at Olton to notify parents/carers of an unlikely closure to our school sites.
In making a decision, factors including site safety, predicted severe weather warnings, local road safety and staff travelling are all taken into consideration. As a network of schools, we also liaise with our colleagues in neighbouring schools. Wherever possible, we make a decision as early as possible on the day of the closure from 6.00am to support working parents in making alternate childcare arrangements. On very rare occasions and with heavy snowfall in an evening, schools sometimes take a safety decision to close the following day. The local authority do not make blanket closure decisions and the ultimate decision is delegated to the Head Teacher.
In the unlikely event of a school closure Olton Primary School will use the following means of communication:
1) Twitter @oltonPrimaryJnr / @oltonPrimaryInf
2) Parentmail system.
3) As well as announcements through local radio stations.
Like many of you, I am already looking forward to sunshine, the start of spring and lighter evenings as I travel home from school! Thank you for your continued support.
