Dear Parents and Carers,

I am pleased to finally be able to share with you our confirmed term dates for the remainder of this academic year. As you will all be aware, Olton will be shortly joining Summit Learning Trust and in doing so we have now aligned our term dates and training opportunities to the academy.

Looking at our calendar, you will notice that we do not have an INSET day in January. In May, when our school is used as a polling station, there will be a partial closure. This means that for our KS2 children (Years 3 to 6) they will be in school learning and importantly, for our Year 6 children, they will not miss vital sessions just before their SATs.

All staff will be in school on this day and for those not directly teaching children, they will continue with their professional development training. For our Nursery, Reception, Y1 and Y2 pupils, they will not be in school on this day but as it is not an INSET across the school, children in these year groups will have some home learning options to choose from. More information will follow nearer the time.

Many of you will also notice that the end of the summer term is earlier than non-academy schools in Solihull, with our school finishing on Friday 16^th July. Over the academic year, our team have and will be continuing to join the professional development opportunities that Summit support for their team outside of school hours and this explains the earlier finish to the term which many of you may wish to take advantage of regarding your summer holidays this year.

In a few weeks’ time, we shall be launching our new and improved school website, which we hope you will find both informative and easier to navigate and I shall write to you nearer the time about this.

As you are aware, the nursing team were at Olton yesterday to carry out the flu vaccinations for pupils.  

I can confirm children with consent from Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 received their vaccination on this day. The nursing team will be returning to Olton on Thursday 19^th November to complete the vaccination of children in Year 4, 5 & 6.

This year the annual flu vaccination programme is being managed externally by Vaccination UK (Solihull).

For this reason, please look out for any email directly from Vaccination UK where you will need to click on the link and submit your permissions and responses.

At Olton, we are unable to provide permissions on your behalf, so please look out for this email which should arrive later today or tomorrow.

Please can you click the link by the end of the day on Wednesday 7th October as the vaccination team is starting to deliver immunisations on Thursday 8th October,

then a follow up session on Thursday 19^th November.
