  • Coronation Celebrations

    Wed 03 May 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

To commemorate the forthcoming Coronation for King Charles III, we will be having a special day to mark this significant historical event with the children on Friday 5th May.

We would like children to dress up on this Friday, either in their special occasion clothes, which might be relating to their culture or religion, or as a former British King or Queen (William the conqueror, Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I or II or maybe even one their teacher doesn’t know much about!

The children will come home with a template for a piece of bunting, with the challenge to decorate this in any way they feel appropriate so we can create a bespoke and memorable Coronation decoration.  This can be decorated both sides if the children wish and to be returned to school by Tuesday 2nd May.

During the day, children will also be finding out about the traditions and history of the Coronation ceremony and taking part in activities relating to this historical event.

In addition to this, we would like to replicate the success of our afternoon cream tea which we held last year to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  This event is open to parents and relatives to come along and enjoy a cream team (£2.00) to include a scone, jam, cream and a cup of tea/ coffee. We are aiming for wonderful sunshine, but in the event of rain, we shall use the school hall. This event will be held on the upper school playground and we hope lots of you will be able to join us.  The event will take place between 1.45pm and 2.45pm and payments in cash will be taken at the event.  If you would like to make a cake donation for us to sell at the afternoon cream tea, this would be much appreciated.  Cake donations should be brought to the Meadow Reception on the morning of 5th May 2023.

We hope the children and our families will enjoy this special day ahead of the Coronation.

    Yours sincerely,

Mr Chamberlain, Mrs Gray  and the team at Olton

  • Saying Goodbye

    Thu 21 Jul 2022

As with any school year, we are always sad to say goodbye to our leavers and this year we will be saying goodbye to some members of staff too.

Miss Moore (Nursery) will be leaving us to look after her family and we hope to see her in school on supply throughout the year. Mrs Parkes (formerly Miss Russell) has just started to her maternity leave last week.

Miss Lamputt will also be moving on to Woodlands School. Mrs Bell will be retiring after 44 years at Chapel Fields Infants, Chapel Fields Juniors and Olton Primary - what an amazing achievement!

Miss Ashington will be leaving us to move to Oak Cottage and Mr Morgan will be relocating to Bristol. Miss Khanum and Mrs Pankhania who support children in class will also be moving on as will Ms Lake and Miss Reynolds who are two of our playworkers in Orchards/Fielders.

We would like to thank our staff leavers for all of their dedication and hard work in supporting so may children during their time in school and wish them much happiness and success for the future.

    Best wishes,

Mr Chamberlain and the Team at Olton

  • Happy Retirement Mrs Bell & Thank You for 44 Years of Teaching!

    Thu 21 Jul 2022

Happy Retirement Mrs Bell & Thank You for 44 Years of Teaching!

It is hard to believe that today we will be saying a fond farewell to Mrs Bell, who will be retiring from teaching after dedicating 44 years to the school - what an amazing achievement!

Mrs Bell started her career at Chapel Field Infant school in 1978, then moved across to Chapel Field Primary in 1980 when the schools joined together, teaching Years 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6. When Olton Primary was launched in 2018, Mrs Bell was proud to be part of all three schools which have been on the site and it was fitting that Mrs Bell should have a classroom in the new block when it opened in November last year.

Mrs Bell is proud to have taught children, their parents and also some of our school staff during this time. She is a much loved and respected member of our school team and has also mentored and provided invaluable support to staff over the years.

Amongst her many achievements as an English teacher, a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Mrs Bell has also celebrated diversity through her EAL work and helped Chapel Fields Junior become the first school in the borough to achieve the Stonewall Champion Bronze award and contributed to a variety of sustainable school initiatives.

We are sure you will join us all in wishing Mrs Bell a very happy retirement and thank Mrs Bell for her dedication and commitment in teaching so many people in our community for the past 44 years!

    Best wishes,

Mr Chamberlain and the Team at Olton

  • Jubilee Celebration Day

    Fri 27 May 2022

We have had a wonderful Jubilee celebration day today with a host of wonderful activities! Each Year group has been learning about a different decade in the Queen's 70 year reign and also learnt a song from that decade. Everything from "How much is that doggy in the window? (1950's) to "500 miles" -The Proclaimers (1980's!)

We have been blown away by the standard of entries and creativity for our portrait competition and the regal crown competition. Well done to 4B for their amazing collaborative art work of the Queen consisting of 32 different sections.

Thank you also to all our parents and friends that have joined us today for our cream tea afternoon- the sun shone for us. We hope that you all have a wonderful half term and we look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 6th June.

Best wishes, Mr Chamberlain and the team at Olton.
