  • Online Booking System for Parents’ Evening Appointments for Nursery to Year 6

    Tue 23 Jan 2024

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We are holding our Spring Term Parents’ Evenings on Tuesday 6th and Thursday 8th February 2024 and for these, parents will be able to make an appointment using the online booking system. For Year 3 Leopards (Mrs Brady), appointments will be on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th February.

Appointments with all teachers will be in person, in your child’s classroom and will be offered from 3:30pm – 6:30pm on both evenings. As Year 5 (Impalas) and Reception (Bobcats) have had a new teacher recently, although the new teacher will be present at the Thursday meetings, these will be led by Mr Jones for Impalas and Mrs Cripps for Bobcats as they know the children.

If your child is also part of Chameleons class, taught by Mrs Pimm and Miss Jordan, please book an appointment with your child’s class teacher as normal using the online booking system and Mrs Pimm or Miss Jordan will join the class teacher at the appointment time.

Our unique website through which you can book appointments is: https://olton.schoolcloud.co.uk/

You will log in to the system by adding your details and those of your child, including your child’s date of birth. The parents evening system uses the details we hold on the SIMS school system. If it does not allow you to log in, please check that you have used your child’s full name or tried the legal name and preferred name. You can add in an email address you wish to use for confirmation and reminders of your chosen appointment time.

Attached with this letter is a Parents’ Guide for Booking Appointments which should take you through the process step by step. You will be able to book appointments through the online portal from 4pm on Wednesday 23rd January.

We hope that you find the online booking system quick and easy to use. It should allow you to book the most convenient slot based on availability and for you to co-ordinate appointments, as necessary, if you have more than one child at our school. If you are having any problems or do not have access to the internet, please contact the school office who can offer support.

    Yours sincerely,

  • Harry Potter Book Evening – Thursday 22nd February 2024 (Year 2 – Year 6)

    Tue 16 Jan 2024

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Does your child love everything Harry Potter? Have they always wanted to attend Hogwarts? This is the evening for them. Olton Primary are hosting an evening which is dedicated to the World of Harry Potter on Thursday 22nd February from 7pm – 8pm. As part of the experience, your child will be able to step through the wall of the 9¾ platform into a world of magic. Once in the great hall, just like the books, the children will have the opportunity to taste some delights from Hogwarts including Ollivander’s chocolate wands and Hermione’s polyjuice potion. Throughout the evening, we will complete lots of activities based on Harry Potter and will also have our very own Harry Potter Quiz night with many prizes on offer. Drop off and collection for the event will be based at the Junior Site entrance.

Dressing up for the evening as one of the characters from Harry Potter is not compulsory but it would be great to see as many as possible in Hogwarts colours. There will be a prize for the best dressed.

In order to attend this event, we ask that you complete the online Microsoft form using the link below and pay £4 via ParentPay or request a barcoded letter. https://forms.office.com/e/y2NG9nZAap If you have registered your interest on our previous form, please also complete this form via the link above to confirm your child’s place. Please can you complete the form by Monday 29th January and ensure payment of £4 has been made by Monday 5th February. The £4 amount will be added to your ParentPay account after Monday 29th January.

Once the payment has been made, your child will receive their very own Hogwarts invitation to the evening.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  • World Book Day - £1 Books

    Fri 12 Jan 2024

    Hi Everyone,

World Book Day - £1 Books

Each year, for World Book Day, children of school age (Reception - Year 6) are given a £1 voucher which they can use at retailers such as Waterstones and WH Smith, in exchange for either one of the £1 World Book Day books or they can use it to save £1 on a different book of their choice. Unfortunately, on many occasions, when we reach the shops, most of the £1 books have already been sold and so the children miss out on owning their own book. However, this year, I have been in contact with WH Smith and we have the opportunity to pre-order the £1 books. This means that each child is able to pre-order and select which book they would like using the Microsoft Form link https://forms.office.com/e/c9BHUctA69. The school would then exchange the voucher on the child's behalf and instead of coming home with a voucher, your child will come home with their very own book.

In order for us to take advantage of this, we must receive the orders from you by Thursday 1st February 2024.

On the World Book Day website, they have all the books on offer to us and when you click on each one, it will provide some information about the book and a short video from the author. Please take some time to look through the books and help your child decide which book they would like in exchange for the £1 voucher.

    https://www.worldbookday.com/books-and-tokens/books/

If we haven't received an order from you by Thursday 1st February, we will presume that you do not wish to pre-order and so your child will receive a voucher on the day instead. Further information about World Book Day will be sent out soon.

This is a fabulous opportunity and I am sure lots of you will take up the opportunity to pre-order these books.

  • Reception - Heroes

    Wed 10 Jan 2024

    Hi Everyone

This term, the Reception topic is all about ‘Heroes’ and we are sending out a plea - we are looking to invite all different types of heroes into school to discuss what their role looks like in our community. We have successfully completed this Fabulous Finale for the previous two years; the Reception children were very lucky to have such a wonderful experience and we would love to run the workshop again with repeated success.

Therefore, if you are one of our local community ‘Heroes,’ we would love for you to visit us in school and talk about your role to to our youngest children. Would you be willing to wear your uniform and show the children the tools needed for your role? Last year we were visited by Police officers, Paramedics, Veterinary Nurses, Armed forces, a Pharmacist and many more.

This academic year, the fabulous finale takes place week beginning 5th February 2024. This is our last week of the term, and we would love to provide children with real-life experiences by meeting different Heroes in person. If you have a vehicle that you use for your role, which you would be willing to share as part of the workshop, we can arrange access on the main driveway.

If you are able to join us the final week of the term, please could you send a message via Class Dojo or send an email to the school office and we can put a timetable together.

    Many thanks for your support.

  • Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) NSPCC Rocks - Year 1 - Year 6

    Wed 10 Jan 2024

    Dear Year 1 to 6 Parent/Carer,

As part of our commitment to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, we are taking part in a friendly competition involving schools in the UK. The competition, for NSPCC Number Day, takes place on Friday 2nd February 2024 between 07:30 and 19:30. It's all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

Children can play in any game mode, with every correct answer to a multiplication or division question earning themselves, their class and the school a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60-minutes per player. Once the player goes beyond 60-minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.

In the spirit of the competition, please don't play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn't cause high stress levels or impact on family plans.

Maths Circle Ltd (TTRS/Numbots) presents NSPCC Rocks in support of NSPCC Number Day. Should you wish to donate to the NSPCC (a leading UK children’s charity that has been looking out for children for over 130 years), you may do so via their website... https://www.nspcc.org.uk/about-us/
